Screen flickering after touchscreen + display replacement on I9300

Hello all!

I have dropped my S3 (by accident, of course) and managed to completely break the touchscreen and display (no image). I ordered a replacement screen for i9300 (marketed as original) and replaced it myself (not the first time I replace screens on embedded devices). At first everything worked fine but with increasing frequency I get flickering and a fade out effect on the screen. A video will illustrate this better:

I've looked into the ribbon connector that connects the screen to the motherboard and cleaned it with alcohol and it made no difference.
The flickering effect appears also in the bootloader or recovery, so it's not android related. I also deactivated GPU rendering in Developer Settings.

My question is - has anyone seen this before? Am I looking at a bad replacement screen? Maybe a bad board (something that might have broken when it fell)? A bad contact?
I'd like to fix it somehow but I don't know where to start.

Thanks
